Michael Clarke has made a bold claim ahead of India’s Test series in England. The former Australia captain believes a 5-0 whitewash could lead to Virat Kohli returning to Test cricket.
“If they get flogged, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s pressure for Kohli to return,” Clarke said on his podcast. “He still loves Test cricket. If the selectors and fans want him back, he’ll think about it.”
Kohli retired from Tests earlier this year. He finished with 123 matches, 9,230 runs, and 30 centuries. His exit, along with Rohit Sharma’s, marks a big shift in Indian Test cricket.
Now, India begins the 2025–27 WTC cycle with a young and less experienced squad. The five-Test series in England starts June 20. It will be their first big test without the old guard.
Clarke also praised Rohit’s leadership.
“Tactically, Rohit was brilliant. Losing both him and Kohli? That’s a big blow,” he added.
If India struggles, the debate about bringing Kohli back could grow louder. Cricket fans know that surprises are never far away.
