Double Digit win for Indian Women’s Hockey Team against Thailand : Asia Cup 2025

The Indian women’s hockey team made a powerful start to their Women’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding 11-0 victory over Thailand at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Hockey Field in Hangzhou, China, on Friday.

Ranked ninth in the world, India wasted no time asserting their dominance over 30th-ranked Thailand. Mumtaz Khan opened the scoring in the seventh minute, followed quickly by Sangita Kumari’s strike. Navneet Kaur and Lalremsiami added to the tally in the second quarter, while Udita converted a penalty corner to give India a 5-0 cushion at halftime.

The third quarter saw India’s relentless pressure continue, with Beauty Dung Dung finding the net in the 45th minute. The final period turned into a goal fest as India struck five more times. Mumtaz Khan, Udita and Sharmila Devi capitalized on penalty corners, while Beauty Dung Dung and debutant Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored field goals to seal an emphatic win.

The result highlights India’s attacking depth and intent as they chase their third Asia Cup crown, having previously lifted the trophy in 2004 and 2017. Drawn in Pool B alongside defending champions Japan, Singapore and Thailand, India will next face Japan on Saturday in what promises to be a tougher challenge.

The 2025 Women’s Asia Cup also serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Hockey World Cup, adding further stakes to India’s campaign.
