John Wall, the dynamic point guard and five-time NBA All-Star, has officially announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 34. Drafted first overall by the Washington Wizards in 2010 out of Kentucky, Wall quickly rose to stardom, forming a formidable backcourt partnership with Bradley Beal and becoming one of the fastest, most athletic guards of his generation.
Over 11 NBA seasons, Wall played for the Wizards, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers, finishing with career averages of 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds across 647 games. His peak came in the 2016–17 season when he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists, earning All-NBA Third Team honors. He also showcased his flair by winning the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest and was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2015.
However, injuries significantly hindered the latter half of his career. Wall missed two full seasons due to knee and Achilles issues and never played more than half a season over his final six years. Despite these setbacks, he remained a respected leader and competitor. In his farewell message, Wall emphasized that basketball will remain part of his life as he now transitions into the next chapter beyond the court.
